Papers regarding the business affairs of Joseph Peabody, privateer, mariner, and merchant ship-owner of Salem, Mass. Collection includes correspondence, cargo lists, insurance policies, bills of lading, bills of exchange, invoices and accounts, memoranda, and protests relating to Peabody's shipping concerns, primarily trade with the West Indies, Calcutta, and points east. Some items regarding the seizure of ships by privateers are included. Papers for many ships include materials about the schooners Three Friends, Cynthia, Fishhawk, and Tabitha; and the brig Neptune. Also papers and fire insurance policies relating to Peabody's properties in Salem, and a copy of Peabody's will.
